How To Reset Breville Toaster Oven

breville toaster oven e01

The first troubleshooting step that I recommend taking is a simple power reset of your toaster oven.

This will resolve most (but not all) of the errors below without requiring any other work, so it’s your fastest option.

You can follow these steps to fully reset your Breville toaster oven:

  1. Make sure that the device is turned off and not running.
  2. Unplug the device from the outlet.
  3. Wait a full 30 minutes.
  4. Plug the device back in and wait another thirty minutes before turning on.

This full process will take about an hour, but you are free to do other things while you wait.

While most guides will suggest unplugging your device for just a few seconds, I’ve found that this doesn’t always reset the toaster oven because some residual electricity can be left in the circuits.

After you’ve completed the steps above, try turning the toaster oven on for 1-2 minutes on a toast or bake cycle. If it works, you’re all set and don’t have to worry anymore!

But if you still see an error code, read on to find out what they mean.

Breville Toaster Oven e01

This is one of two errors that you never want to see on your toaster oven. Breville calls this a “non-resettable” error, which means that a reset procedure like the one above won’t fix it.

This can be caused by a number of different issues with the inner workings of the toaster oven. The most common cause is an issue with the thermistor.

The thermistor is a small sensor that measures the temperature inside your toaster oven. When it’s working properly, it is able to tell the toaster oven when to heat up and when to stop so that your food gets cooked at the right temperature.

When it malfunctions, it can no longer maintain the temperature inside the toaster oven. This is dangerous because your device may continue heating up well past the point where it is supposed to stop.

That’s why Breville considers this such an important error and not one that you should try to fix yourself. Instead, you’ll need to contact Breville customer support.

To resolve an “e01” error, you will need to contact Breville support:

  1. Unplug the toaster oven for safety before proceeding.
  2. Go to the Breville Support Hub.
  3. If you bought your device within the last 2 years, click on Product Registration and enter as much information as you can. This will speed up the process.
  4. Go back to the Support Hub and select Chat with Support Agent or call the number. You can also click Create New Case if you’d rather handle the issue by email, but this will take longer.
  5. Explain to the support agent that your toaster oven is displaying the “e01” error code.

Keep in mind that the warranty period for a toaster oven is 2 years, during which time Breville guarantees that they will repair or replace a faulty unit. However, you may be asked to provide your original proof of purchase and the warranty card.

Breville Toaster Oven e02

This is another error that Breville considers to be “non-resettable” and requires contacting their customer support team.

This error code most likely means that there is a slightly different issue with the thermistor. Just like the “e01” error, this can cause your toaster oven to heat up to dangerous levels.

The steps to resolve this are the same as the ones listed above, since it requires you to each out to a support agent.

To resolve an “e02” error, you will need to contact Breville support:

  5. Explain to the support agent that your toaster oven is displaying the “e02” error code.

Breville Toaster Oven e03

If you are seeing an “e03” error on your display, it means that your toaster oven has gotten too hot.

This can happen sometimes if you are cooking a large meal or running the toaster oven for several hours. There is no issue with your toaster oven yourself, but you will need to let it cool.

To resolve an “e03” error, follow these steps:

  1. Unplug the toaster oven from the outlet.
  2. Leave it unplugged for at least 15-20 minutes, allowing the device to cool down.
  3. After 20 minutes have passed, you can plug it back in and try running it again if needed.

Keep in mind that the maximum temperature allowed by the Breville toaster oven is 450º.

Under normal conditions this shouldn’t be a problem. But if you find yourself running into this issue frequently, you may need to try cooking at a slightly lower temperature for a longer amount of time.

Breville Toaster Oven e04

This is a fairly rare error that indicates that the ambient temperature in the room is too low for the toaster oven to operate correctly.

To resolve an “e04” error, follow these steps:

  1. Check to make sure not cold air is blowing on the toaster oven from a vent or nearby refrigerator.
  2. Try unplugging the device and moving it to a different area of your home.

If those steps don’t help, try the reset procedure mentioned above.

Breville Toaster Oven e05

This is another critical error that can’t be fixed without assistance from customer support.

If you are seeing this error code, it’s most likely due to a malfunction in your toaster oven’s triac board. This is an electrical component that regulates the flow of electricity throughout the device.

Since it manages electricity, it can be very dangerous when it malfunctions. This is why Breville requires you to contact them to resolve it.

To resolve an “e05” error, follow these steps:

  1. Unplug the toaster oven and test it in a different outlet, ideally one that is on a different circuit breaker in your house.
  2. If that doesn’t work, there is likely an issue with the triac board. Go to the Breville Support Hub to contact Breville support.
  3. If you bought your device within the last 2 years, click on Product Registration and enter as much information as you can. This will speed up the process.
  4. Go back to the Support Hub and select Chat with Support Agent or call the number. You can also click Create New Case if you’d rather handle the issue by email, but this will take longer.
  5. Explain to the support agent that your toaster oven is displaying the “e05” error code.

Breville Toaster Oven Display Always On

The toaster oven screen is designed to turn on when you touch it or adjust any of the settings. It will then turn off after a few moments of inactivity.

Sometimes, that doesn’t work and the screen stays illuminated all the time.

In those cases, you’re quickest path to fixing it is to reset the toaster oven back to its factory settings.

Follow these steps to fully reset your Breville toaster oven:

  1. Make sure that the device is turned off and not running.
  2. Unplug the device from the outlet.
  3. Wait a full 30 minutes.
  4. Plug the device back in.

After you plug the device back in, wait a few minutes to see if the screen turns off. If it doesn’t, you may need to reach out to Breville customer support.

Breville Toaster Oven Fan Noise

It’s normal to hear a noise coming from your Breville Toaster Oven while it is operating, as both the heating elements and the fan can be loud. If you hear something rattling or the fan seems unusually noisy, check to make sure that the wire rack is seated properly in the grooves.
